Refocus Recovery is a grassroots organization that fosters peer to peer relationships within the multiple pathways to recovery. Our program focuses on developing and supporting a pathway to recovery for those affected by substance use. Our Peer Recovery Specialists serve as mentors, advocates, and community networkers. We are a Recovery Community Organization actively serving the Minneapolis and St. Paul area. Our Peer Recovery Specialist services administered by our contracted staff serve the local community through advocacy and resource support by utilizing a “boots on the ground” model.
In addition to providing recovery services, we are committed to helping people help others. We educate and certify peers in recovery to become Certified Peer Recovery Specialists (CPRS). We deliver an approved CPRS curriculum and facilitate the Minnesota Certification Board certification process. Our classes are available to anyone in recovery who is interested in delivering CPRS services. Once certified, we can contract you as part of our organization to help connect you with peers and support you as you support others.
Refocus Recovery also helps build programs inside of established organizations who want to provide CPRS services. We can certify your organization's program graduates so they can help other program participants be successful. We also provide state compliant back-office infrastructure for charting and billing. There is no cost to your organization, only additional value for your program's participants.
Recovery is possible for everyone
Recovery is found through many paths
Recovery reclaims what has been lost
To support, empower, and guide people in the recovery community toward reaching their recovery goals through personal connection and shared experiences.
We envision recovery communities engaging and collaborating on ways to keep individuals, from all paths, healthy and free from substance use and its stigmas. We connect people to their communities through in-person advocacy by building community capital. We seek to educate the public on the benefits of strengthening a person's recovery by encouraging community engagements and relationships. We work to create technologies and innovations that create accessibility to services and resources in the community.
• Dedication to the belief that recovery is found through many paths and is possible for everyone
• Responsibility to exemplary service within the communities we serve
• Honesty and integrity in the provision of services to the recovery community
• Diversity and inclusion to ensure every individual's culture, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, and socioeconomic status is respected
• Excellence and adaptability in service to provide emotional, physical, and economic wellbeing to all populations served
• Authentic connection through reckless understanding
One of our core values is to provide exemplary service to the communities we serve. Because bringing connection to recovery is our primary goal, we actively seek the community's participation to gather feedback around what is working and what is not. This valuable insight is gathered through various interactions and events that are designed as an opportunity for the community to share with us their experiences and struggles. By having open and honest discussions, we can develop ways to best support them in our shared goal of making recovery a reality for everyone. We foster these interactions through coordinated cook-outs, fluid curriculum trainings, discovery meetings, and peer led recovery groups.

After working in the industry as a Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS), our Director of Services noticed a disconnect between the CPRS services provided in traditional treatment centers and helping people in recovery sustain long-term recovery. In response to this dilemma, Refocus Recovery has provided a CPRS training that directly places the CPRS in a peer-to-peer role in the community.
The goal is to provide all communities, including underserved populations, with access to training that instructs CPRS‘s to be in-person advocates. Our training offers direct access to testing through the Minnesota Certification Board. In addition, it provides contracting opportunities for students completing the 46-hour training and certification test.
Our CPRS course is a 7.5-day training course with certified peer recovery specialists active in the recovery community.
